PROJECT 04
DREAM IMPACT — COMPACT MATCHING SYSTEM
DREAM IMPACT & PROJECT BACKGROUND
Dream Impact is he the largest network of social
enterprises & impact ventures
in Hong Kong. Dream Impact plays an important role in matching needs and resources between social enterprises in Hong Kong. In order to help those organizations to find opportunities to cooperate with each other. Currently, Dream Impact is having their own web membership system — COMPACT.
It serves as membership database storage, a venue booking platform, as well as place to
handle invoices & receipts.
OBJECTIVE
To better facilitate the users service and also make work more efficient,
Dream Impact wishes to develop a Resources Matching function for Dream Impact members, based on the existing COMPACT system. Currently, Dream Impact utilizes Airtable — an online collaboration service platform, for its Resource Matching System. Under this arrangement, members contact Admin to match their needs with another member’s resources. However, Dream Impact would like to have this system automated, with a partner-focused platform utilizing their current COMPACT system.
EXISTING DESIGN OF COMPACT AND AIRTABLE
See detail in UI/UX AUDIT
PROBLEM
Dream Impact has a complex resources list as partners come from different sectors, and focus on different social impact
topics. Thus, they have different resources and needs. Before the revamp the database containing the detailed version of all member’s profile is separately on Airtable.
MY ROLE
My contribution in this project involved in both analysing user research, user interface exploration and UI design.
My role is to re-design the brand-new partner matching page which can be merged into the existing COMPACT system. In which, members can browse freely and connect to other members without the assistance from admin staffs.
A simple and user-friendly yet functional filter should replace the previous one on Airtable. Since its open not only admin staff but to all members on the platform.
GOAL
There are 2 types of possible users for COMPACT, members & Dream Impact admin staff.
Members:
-
Able to enter their resources and needs when setting up the account
-
Post projects opportunities on the platform, and let other partners to connect & collaborate
-
Browse the “Resources matching” section, to freely read other partner’s resources and needs
-
Search the resources (and needs) through the matching system with the categories / checkboxes / type out the
keywords.
-
Members can connect and contact to other partners directly.
Dream Impact staff:
- Tracking and monitoring all the connections & activities between different partners are needed.
MINIUM VIABLE PROTOTYPE — MVP
The team has totally conducted 2 rounds of MVP. In each round of MVP we had 3-4 interviewees. All the interviewer are working at social enterprises. Some of them are existing DI member. We also invited DI admin staff to test the MVP. From the 2 MVPs, we asked the interviewer to match with a designated member using the new matching system. After the tests, we gathered comments and feedbacks and to improve our design accordingly

SETTING UP COMPANY PROFILE
Now the members can set up ann account on COMPACT on their own without admin staffs involved. This change can greatly speed up thesign-upp process and also greatly reduce the heavy workload of admin staff.
SEARCH AND MATCH
- Filter options are reduced and simplified
- Showing member need/resource on the result cards
- Hover the result card to see events photos
SEARCH
CONNECT AND CHAT
Profile page is now added more information of a company, so that members can know each other more at the first glance.
Members can also connect and start chatting with other member. This change can also speed up the matching process.
ADMINs are able to track all the booking record, orders, inviocinvoiceshat history between member on the analysis page.
CONCLUSION
Admin is not involved in the matching process any more unless the users need guidance and help in matching a partner.
The revamped COMPACT can greatly save time in the matching process and also to lighten the workload of admin staff. Admin staff is not involved in the matching process any more unless the users need guidance and help in matching a partner. It can also encourage the users to join the membership since the detailed partner info is now opened to all members.
UI/UX AUDIT ON EXISTING COMPACT AND MATCHING SYSTEM
COMPACT - DASHBOARD
SEARCHING FOR A PARTNER
-
There is an only a single search bar on the search page, so users can hardly look for potential partner if they are new to Dream Impact. Users all depend on the admin staff when it comes to partner matching.
-
The user can only rely on admin staff to match with other member after they find interest in someone’s profile.
-
There is only limited information enclosed to users. The result is only text which is not attractive and the users can’t understand what the organization is about from the limited information given.
-
Members can’t connect and communicate with other member directly.
MEMBER’S PROFILE
-
The profile pages is located under the setting, which is difficult to find. So the user is not encouraged to update their profile. It also makes the matching process harder with little information provided.
-
Not clear to show where to click in to look the partner info, as there is no cursor for clickable item. Unsure what the different between Resident and Non-resident partners
AIRTABLE (EXISTING INTERNAL SEARCH PLATFORM)
Airtable is not disclosed to members, it's only for internal use.
When the staff receives a matching request from member. The staff will suggest the potential match to the member by looking up in Airtable. The admin staffs are also responsible to create and update member’s profile on Airtable.
- Filters options are confusing.
